I hate formalities, but I suppose its good to have a little bio on my blog.
I have been attempting a blog for a while now. I've been on the fence about how to go about it. I know so many great women and mothers who have amazing, popular blogs. They are, however, different than I am. I do not have the genuinely sweet vibe that they do. They're super moms in traditional and socially acceptable ways.
Me? Well... I'm not the warm, fuzzy, sweetness that a lot of blogs by my peers of reproductive success.
Here's my "rough around the edges" bits:
I do not fit the typical mold of what most think a mommy blogger embodies. For one, I am an outspoken, politically active, far-left feminist and a non-believer. I have a habit of swearing, which I do not plan to change. I can switch off the potty mouth around little ears and in a professional setting, so calm the f*ck down.
The less harsh attributes:
I have a three and a half year old son, who is my never ending source of comedy. I'll be posting his hilarious isms for your reading enjoyment.
I owe a lot to my son. His birth (which was at home) was a huge kick in the ass for me to wake up and rebuild myself into the badass mama I deserve to be and he deserves to have. I went back to college, became more politically active, and started on a personal mission to be more aware of my consumer habits (which is also political). Basically, I found myself and ran with it.
My degree focus is history, with specializations in women's history and women's studies. I'm a full time student, which is a challenge with a wee one at home. It also severely limits our budget. Then combine that with being an informed consumer who doesn't want to feed money to companies who are socially and environmentally irresponsible, and shopping becomes hard. Oh... and I have Celiac's disease, so I can't eat anything with wheat or gluten.
I love being crafty and making shit, whether it be knitting a scarf or canning my own vegetables. This has been the saving grace of it all. I got tired of spending money on stupid crap I assumed I could make myself, so I got busy... busy on top of being busy, that is. I started canning and jamming my own veggies and fruits. Then I moved on to making my own cleaning supplies, like laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, and cleaning spray. Now I have a sewing machine, so who knows what crazy shit I'll be crafting up, in the name of sticking it to the man next.
Random thing I love:
Opera. I love it more than any other music in the world. My specific obsession is with the music of Richard Wagner. (This is the most phenomenal thing in the world of Wagner right now.) German nationalism later got blown to extremes and led to some bad shit, but in the nineteenth century it helped fuel the best music ever composed. You may be subjected to a random opera or Wagner posting on occasion, just warning you.
The purpose of this blog:
Share my recipes, crafty adventures, moments in my life as a MoFe, isms, and other random shit that falls out of my head and onto the blog.
